Psychologist Session

IT'S A PLEASURE TO MEET YOU

I was born and raised on Canada's East coast, and moved to Ontario as a teen. I come from a long line of people who serve others: teachers, nurses, the military, mental health professionals, police officers, doulas, work at home moms, massage therapists, and then some. I bring this legacy of "service" to my private practice, and I add East coast humour and informality when it makes sense to do so.

I obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Psychology and Criminology before moving on to complete an Honours Bachelor of Social Work. I obtained my Master of Social Work through the focused clinical program at Wilfrid Laurier University. Since that time, I've pursued significant training in CBT, DBT, CPT, and several other forms of treatment and intervention. I believe in the brain-body connection and often bring this into my work through mindfulness practices, breathing techniques, relaxation, and vagus nerve practices when it fits a client's needs.

I am keenly aware of the pain that life can bring. Over the years I have become uniquely comfortable with the uncomfortable events, thoughts, and emotions that we experience as part of being human. Please know that it is impossible to shock me and judgment isn't part of my make up.

When I'm not working, I am an avid reader and amateur yogi who enjoys hiking with my dog. I live, work, and volunteer in Durham Region with my family. We spend a lot of time with horses and enjoy movies, games, and travelling. And here's an interesting side note: my spouse is also a therapist.
